Get thee to Launchbar 5 and ditch Pathfinder. Also, head over to screencastsonline.com and spend some time reviewing the free videos. Launchbar is an amazing tool; spotlight now gathers dust and I rarely need to use finder. It is the single biggest boost to productivity I've found on the mac. Cheers.

Peter,

I completely understand your points. GrandTotal and TimeLog are excellent apps. And, Stefan (author of both) is just a stand-up guy and an all-around excellent coder.

Thankfully, I don't need multi-currency (at least, not yet). I also agree that GT's layout editor is well done. I just wish that GT had integration with Daylite - which is my primary tool. TimeLog integrates via iCal + Sync Services, which does help.

The other big benefit to Billings is that it is just one app rather than two - and it accomplishes the same functionality (albeit with a different metaphor). Funny enough - I even saved a little space on my Dock when I made the change. :)

Regardless, I appreciate you making a comment here on the blog.

Before deciding on an invoice app, we've tried many of them and ended up using GrandTotal. Billings is great, but is seems that the users' voices are just ignored when it comes to some really important features (e.g. multi-currency) in favor of a long-promised iphone app (it's been almost a year?). Moreover, the layout editor in Billings is a pain, compared to GrandTotal, where it works like a charm. I'd have preferred Billings because the UI seems nicer, but in the end GT took the pole position.

Of course, it always comes down to your needs - if you don't need multi-currency, and a tight integration with Daylite, Billings is probably the way to go.

Actually, DHCP doesn't require DDNS. It helps, but you can generally work around it. If the OmniGroup released OmniContact, that would be an amazing application, especially if it integrated with Mail and OF.

In regard to Opportunities on the iPhone with Daylite Touch, you can update them on the road, even if the Daylite Server manages to go down. You can just sync the changes when you return home. Lastly, the Marketcircle team is working on improving the UI for Daylite. Daylite Touch is a great example of their next generation user experience.

I've been using OF and iPhone OF for a few weeks now and the sync is *totally automatic* with a manual sync option just like Daylite. When I open the iPhone app, it starts a sync which takes a few seconds on my 3GS. So, your statement in your blog is false. It also clearly syncs over 3G.

Working with a DHCP connection and Daylite Server requires setting up a Dynamic DNS. With Omnifocus, I just put in my mobile me login/password and that was that. No matter where I go, no matter what the state of my workstation (on/off/crying) my stuff is on the webdav server. If your touch server is kicked offline while you are in NYC, how do you access your tasks/projects/opportunities? BUT - the server is great for group work...

You are so correct about the lack of contact management. I now use Address Book and you totally lose the ability to maintain rolls, relationships and connection to projects/opportunities. I hope that Omnigroup develops a simple program, something like OmniContact.

Opportunities are just projects with a few different fields. At the root of it, you are mostly tracking tasks. I have my opportunities now stored in Omnifocus under an "Opportunity" folder. Works great. When the opportunity turns into a Project, I simply reclassify it and add the new project tasks.

I used Daylite for a few years, still have it installed and maybe some day I'll give it another shot. For me, Daylite had big sync issues that caused the program to hang and consume 100% cpu (after a year of troubleshooting), I am not a fan of popup dialogs for everything, loved the concept (not the execution) of "action sets", not a huge fan of the 'pipeline' and do favor the parallel/series abilities of OF, Daylite doesn't have subprojects (OF does), but love the contact management in Daylite. I also fed Daylite using DMI, which was a nice way to quickly add contacts to the database along with opps and projects, but I never ever used the mail tracking (as notes?) in Daylite. I always referenced Mail.app to grab an email history for my clients. Omnigroup could easily add in mail integration.

One last tidbit - Omnigroup is now working directly with GTD/David Allen afaik...
